I am a specialist in adult cardiology with a focus on heart rhythm problems and all types of pacemaker devices.
Arrhythmia are very common in the general population and the majority are not dangerous, but some can have significant consequences. For example, Atrial Fibrillation, which is common particularly over the ages of 70, requires a patient tailored approach to ensure safety against strokes and prevention of heart failure, but also manage symptoms effectively. This is best achieved under the care of a heart rhythm specialist. Other relatively common arrhythmia emerging above the ventricles, known as SVTs can be treated with medication alone or indeed with more specialised interventions such as electrophysiological studies (EPS) and ablations. Useful links are provided on the contacts page.
I am employed by Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and keep private consulting rooms at The Cheltenham Cotswolds Nuffield and Gloucester Winfield Hospitals.
I have an interest in developing new and revolutionary pacing technologies, and have won the Innovation Award (supported by the Academy of Health Sciences Network South West, Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and NHS Innovations South West), for my work.
I have taught on pacing simulators as a Faculty member of the British Cardiovascular Society on more than one occasion and present regularly at the Cheltenham Science Festival to a varied audience. I am a member of Heart Rhythm UK, the South West Electrophysiology Group (SWEG) and the Oxford Region Arrhythmia Group (ORAG). These groups not only provide a professional forum for discussing complex and difficult cases, they also facilitate links with the tertiary centres in Oxford, Bristol, Birmingham and the Peninsula.
I have given media interviews in a professional capacity and presented a live pacemaker implant case on BBC Radio 4’s ‘Inside Health’ program (July 2013).
